Summary : The novel Jack describes the life of workers belonging to a boiler and steam machine factory. There, Daudet seems more interested with those details that touch the imaginations and stir workers'emotions, than with the details of work itself. The author also recalls certain formes of the appearance of the world of labor, of "the low classes", in literature.
