Cette contribution à la clinique du travail s'intéresse au travail sur le négatif psychosocial, aux activités méconnues ou dévaluées, qui constituent l'essentiel de la profession exercée ou la part considérée comme ingrate ou indue de celle-ci. La notion de "sale boulot" (dirty work) empruntée à E. C. Hugues (1897-1983) est, d'un point de vue heuristique, féconde pour éclairer la question de l'organisation du travail non seulement comme division sociale et technique, mais aussi morae et psychologique. Les différents secteurs professionnels étudiés (industrie du déchet, hôpitaux, prison, police) dessinent le champ du "sale boulot" comme recouvrant essentiellement les activités qui confrontent à la souillure et à la transgression. L'attention portée aux processus psychiques à l'oeuvre dans la confrontation au réel du travail et ses résonances fantasmatiques conduisent à interroger les conditions d'une validation-légitimisation des pratiques, indispensable au travail de sublimation.

Summary : The dirty work

This contribution to the clinical approach to work deals with the psychosocial "negative", with the not well-known or undervalued activities, whether they represent the essence of the practiced profession or just its undesirable or undervalued aspects. The notion of "dirty work" fostered by E.C. Hugues (1897-1983) is heuristically fertile for the study of the organization of work not only as a social and technical division but also as a moral and psychologicalone. The different professionel sectors studied (waste management, hospital, prison and police) represent the field of "dirty work" as essentially the activities that expose people to dirt and transgression. The focus on psychic processes underlying the tension between the realism of work and its imaginary resonance leads us to question the conditions of validation-legitimization of essentiel practices to the process of sublimation.
